2 Day Class – March 4-5, 2026
As we are learning about the night sky, empty space isn’t as empty as we believed! There are millions of galaxies, some closer and some much farther away, filled with stars. Celestial Vistas packs as many star stitches into this project as possible, leaving very little empty space. The design began as an idea, to see if I could layer 8 pointed stars and 12 pointed stars and evolved to other star stitches. Different weights of white and silver threads illustrate the faint light that reaches us from distant galaxies, and brighter light from nearer galaxies.
Stitches used include 8 pointed and 12 pointed stars, tied windmill, twisting stars, star Jessicas, double cross stars, ray stars and quilted stars, with small herringbone squares, trellis, upright crosses, rays and fans to fill in more space.
Teaching Objectives:
- Understand the process of the stitches that allows ease of stitching without constant reliance on the diagrams and instructions
- Explore different thread textures to develop the design
- Learn different techniques for anchoring threads to begin a length, and for ending a length
Student Objectives:
- Confidence in working with various thread textures
- Develop enthusiasm for twisty stitches

Kit Contents/Cost: $225. The kit includes a 14”x14”Antique Blue canvas with taped edges. Threads used include Gloriana Silk Floss, Au Ver a Soie Silk Floss, Kreinik #8 and #12 braids, ThreadworX #8 braids, Au Ver a Soie metallic braids, Rainbow Gallery Silk Lame’ Braid and Petite Silk Lame Braid, Neon Rays+ and more, needles and extensive printed instruction book.
Stitcher to provide: 14”x 14” (2 pair) stretcher bars and tacks or staples to attach the canvas to stretcher bars. Highlighter and usual stitching supplies including light, laying tool, frame stand or weight, magnifier and extension cord if needed.
